In the seventh year overall and third year of a full marathon, the Grand Forks Wild Hog race is hitting a consistent stride, according to Wild Hog committee member Stacy Kusler. The Wild Hog weekend, which features the full marathon, half marathon, 10K, 5K and other events, is expected to draw roughly 2, participants. The 2, participants figure is on par with last year's s, which is an encouraging development considering plateauing and declining national trends, Kusler said. One of the new wrinkles of the marathon this year will be cheer zones.
Kusler describes the zones as neighborhoods or sports teams choosing a place along the course to set up s and noise makers. We feel it's important and a marketing tool for us. If it feels and looks good, people will wear our shirts around more than race weekend. There's lots of really cool things happening on those ro, with runners accomplishing things they've been working on all year.
